It was winter in Manhattan, falling snow flakes filled the air,
The streets were covered with a film of ice,
But a little simple magic that I learned about somewhere,
Changed the weather all around, just within a thrice.
I bought you violets for your furs and it was spring for a while, remember?
I bought you violets for your furs and there was April in that December
.

I was listening to Frank Sinatra tonight and discovered a beautiful love song called Violets For Your Furs. Above was a little taste of the lyrics. As a kid and even now, I have always been drawn to Sinatra's soothing voice and the stories he shared in his songs. To me it was one of the best forms of escapism to light some candles, dim the lights, and play Old Blue eyes so I could take a journey through swinging jazz and classic romance. My Funny Valentine, I Get A Kick Out Of You, My Way, Taking A Chance On Love, Sunday, Wrap Your Troubles In Your Dreams... …Who could not love these songs??!

It seemed like things were so much simpler then.  How did the world get so complicated? I'm sure many of you have theories on this.

If you are a Sinatra fan, please share some of your personal favorites. Also, who do you think is the modern day Sinatra?

Sinatra had quite a few singing careers. I like his early years before his voice really matured. One of my favorites is "I'll be Seeing You". I think he recorded it with either Tommy Dorsey or Harry James.

Frank was the Chairman but Dean was the coolest of the Rat Pack. They don't make them like that anymore. I guess the closest is George Clooney.

I agree with Star.....Dean was the coolest of cool....and I also agree that George Clooney is a nice predecessor. He could park his boots at my front door any old day....lol

I've Got You Under My Skin, because of a HS rendition we did that kicked butt.
Luck Be A Lady, because of a cool moment in Vegas, at the big fountain.
Fly Me To The Moon, because I'd like to fly.

Seriously, Sass, I could listen to Blue Eyes all day long, dancing with my kitchen broom, and live longer that many less happy people!

Lol. I've done the dancing in the kitchen with the broom before. My own personal dance partner.

All,
Thanks for your thoughts. I see I'm in good company!
I definately will check out Michael Buble along with playing more Sinatra. Add some chocolates, strawberries and champagne and I have my own personal heaven...
@Lisa: You're right, I'm sure Frank lived during a crazy time as well. No different from what I'm sure today's celebrities experience. But it seems neat to imagine that life could feel as simple as a Sinatra song. I will imagine it this way as if I'm dreaming :).

I have a friend, who sings and sounds exactly like Frank. When I need some, I can just ask Kelly....too bad he doesn't look like him too.....LOL!

I saw Sinatra in Vegas. My mom was weeping, Dad got annoyed and went to play craps. He was awesome.
That being said, i don't think things were less complicated back then. Think of his wild ride through life. He lived twenty lifetimes to my one.
There is nothing like dancing to a great Sinatra melody. Especially if he is into it. Strangers In The Night always comes to mind when I think of him. New York New York is what me and kiddo sing when we are on the way to The City.
There ain't nobody out there like him.
For today, I would have to vote for Kravitz. Not a Sinatra... every bit as romantic. he has just as much Charisma. WOW
Lisa

lol Lisa.....I loved that comment about Mom weeping and Dad playing craps. I was never a fan of Dean Martin until I saw him in Vegas....something 'bout Vegas....lol
